  • About the Artists
  • The members of the Moscow String Quartet have earned a place among the most distinguished artists of our time. All graduates of the Moscow Conservatory and the Gnessin Musical Institute (Moscow), they were students of eminent professors. Euguenia Alikhanova, violinist, graduated from the Moscow Conservatory from the class of Yuri Yankelevich, one of the great masters of the Russian violin school, who counts among his students Vladimir Spivakov and Dmitry Sitkovetsky. Violinist Galina Kokhanovskaia was a student of the well known Russian performer and teacher Leonid Polies. Tatiana Kokhanovskaia, viola, graduated from the class of Professor Genrikh Talalian, a member of the famous Komitas String Quartet. Cellist Olga Ogranovitch was a student of Valentin Berlinsky of the Borodin Quartet. After graduating, the musicians organized a quartet and trained under the supervision of Professor Valentin Berlinsky.

The Moscow String Quartet has concertized extensively since 1975. They gained international attention after winning the 1978 Leo Weiner International Quartet Competition in Budapest, Hungary. The next year, the quartet triumphed at the International Quartet Competition in Evian, France.

The Moscow String Quartet has performed in the U.S. in New York City, Philadelphia, Detroit, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Chicago, and at the White House in a Christmas concert in 1996. The quartet was in residence at the Lamont School of Music from 1991 until 1996 and at the University of Denver, Colorado, since 1997.
