Founded in 1956, the Chicago Children's Choir is a multiracial, multicultural choral music education organization, shaping the future by making a difference in the lives of children and youth through musical excellence.
The Chicago Children's Choir is America's largest, most comprehensive organization devoted to the musical education of children. The Choir's diverse repertoire includes classical works, American spirituals, and folk songs from around the world. All music is performed in its original language. The Chicago Children's Choir is comprised of Treble and Chamber Ensembles, Men's Chorus, Men's Chorus in Training, Madrigal Singers, and a Show Choir. Nearly 3,200 children, ages nine through eighteen, participate in its unique sequential program in fifty-three Chicago elementary, middle, and special schools (In-School program); six neighborhood choirs (After-School Program); the Choir Academy of the Chicago Children's Choir, the only arts-based charter school in the city; and, at the pinnacle, the world-renowned Concert Choir.
Josephine Lee, the youngest Artistic Director in the history of the 46-year old organization, defines the artistic vision for all of the Chicago Children's Choir programs. She is also the principal conductor of the Concert Choir, the top touring and performance ensemble. Ms. Lee received her Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance from DePaul University and earned her Masters in Music Degree in Choral Conducting from Northwestern University.
The Chicago Children's Choir is supported by performance fees, as well as corporate, civic, and private sponsorship. For more information, please see the Choir's web site.
The audience is invited to join the artist at an ice cream social following the performance.
