  • About the Artists
  • Founded in 1988, the Leipzig String Quartet is now widely acclaimed as one of the most exciting string quartets on the international chamber music scene. Three of the members were prinicipals of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra before deciding to devote all their time to the Quartet in 1991.

The Quartet studied with the Amadeus Quartet, Gerhard Bosse, Hatto Beyerle, and Walter Levin, and was granted scholarships by the Amadeus Scholarship and the Foundation of Culture Funds. It has won several honors, including 2nd Prize at the ARD Competition in Munich (no 1st Prize was awarded), the Busch Brothers Award in 1991, and the Siemens Music Award in 1992.

The Leipzig String Quartet's repertoire includes approximately 200 compositions by 55 composers. It has recorded the complete string quartets of Schubert, Dessau, Webern, Eisler, and Adorno. In addition, it has recorded works by Beethoven, Berio, and Cage.

More information on the artists can be found here (Leipzig String Quartet).
