More on the artist, post-concert reception, location, ordering tickets, and pre-concert dinner below.
This program is partially supported by the University of Chicago and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
A pianist in the grand manner, Rosario Andino carries on the legacy of Anton and Nicholas Rubinstein, Ferruccio Busoni, Ignace Friedman, Emil Sauer, Leopold Godowsky, and Alexander Michailowsky, all of whom taught her distinguished teachers, Vera Maurina- Press and Jascha Fischermann. Cuban-born and American-bred, Andino began her musical studies at age four and gave her first concert at age six. She graduated with highest honors from the Fischermann Conservatory in Havana and later from the Chatham Square Music School in New York City. She is an alumna -- summa cum laude -- of the St. George’s School (Havana) and of Hunter College (New York City).
Rosario Andino has won numerous awards, such as the coveted Music Critics Circle Prize in Cuba and the Pittsburgh Society of Musical Arts prize in the USA. She lives and works in the United States, and tours Europe and Mexico annually. Her orchestra performances, recitals, radio and television concerts have been acclaimed around the world. Her immense solo repertoire includes all the major and some of the lesser-known works from the baroque, classical, romantic, and modern eras, as well as works by Cuban, South American and Spanish composers. In addition, some contemporary composers have written and dedicated works to her.
This world class piano virtuoso has just returned from her European tour and will present a showcase program that includes familiar classical piano pieces by Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, and List, as well as seldom heard Cuban dances by composers from the last two century.
The audience is invited to join the artists at a reception following the performance.
