The Amati Quartet from Switzerland was founded in 1981. Having collaborated with the Alban Berg and the Amadeus Quartets, with Walter Levin and Felix Galimir, the Quartet quickly made a name for itself by winning the Premier Grand Prix of the International Competition of Evian (1982), the Arts Prize of the City of Zurich (1983), and the First Prize of the Karl Klinger Competition in Munich (1986).
Besides performing the Classical and Romantic repertoire, the Quartet gives special attention to the music of the 20th century, which has resulted in many world premiere performances.
The Amati Quartet has an extensive discography. Two of its CD recordings -- Shostakovich's Quartets Nos. 3 and 7, as well as Szymanowski Op. 56/Ravel -- were distinguished with the Prize of the German Record Reviewers.
The concert will be presented in the Auditorium of the APS Conference Center (Bldg. 402) at Argonne. It is open to the public; no special permit is required to enter the laboratory site.
