The Festetics Quartet from Budapest---Istvan Kertesz, first violin; Erika Petoefi, second violin; Peter Ligeti, viola; and Rezsoe Pertorini, cello---combines the technique of original instruments with the legendary tradition of Hungarian string quartets. The Quartet is named after the Festetics family, founders of the famous Helikon music library. Its repertoire includes the string quartets by Haydn and Mozart and the early works by Beethoven and Schubert.

The Quartet's recordings of the complete Haydn quartets are available on the Hugaraton and Quintana-Harmonia Mundi labels. Its latest CD is of late Mozart quartets for the French label Arcana.

Maria Rose, who studied fortepiano with Malcolm Bilson, is a frequent performer at early-music festivals in Europe and the U.S. She has recorded the complete Nocturnes of John Field, as well as Sonatas by Beethoven, Mozart, and Clementi. Her Newport Classic recording of three Sonatas by Hummel was featured by the BMG Record Club.
