presents the VIENNA VIRTUOSIAuditorium, APS Conference Center, Argonne National LaboratorySaturday, March 15, 1997 at 8:00 p.m.
The Vienna Virtuosi is a chamber ensemble composed of younger-generation players of the Vienna Philharmonic who occupy solo or first-chair positions in the orchestra. The ensemble was founded by Ernst Ottensamer, solo clarinettist of the orchestra, in 1990. The core members are ten musicians, who are joined by additional players as the program requires. Noted musicians, such as Daniel Barenboim and Andr\'e Previn, have performed with them. For this concert, the ensemble will consist of its core group of five string and five wind players. The Vienna Virtuosi have their own concert cycle at the Musikverein Wien. They regularly appear at the Salzburg, Vienna, and Ossiach music festivals and have toured extensively throughout Europe and Japan. They have several recordings for the Canyon Classics label. Their appearance for Arts at Argonne will be an exclusive for the Chicago area.
