Argonne National Laboratory — Associate Division Director, Accelerator Systems Division

The Advanced Photon Source facility at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking a skilled manager of high standing within the international particle accelerator community to serve as Associate Division Director of its Accelerator Systems Division. The successful applicant will manage and coordinate the R&D efforts of the Accelerator Systems Division in cooperation with other divisions within Advanced Photon Source, Argonne, and with other research institutions around the world.

This position requires a high level of expertise in state-of-the-art accelerator science and technology, including superconducting technology, and comprehensive skill in setting priorities and goals for enhancing accelerator systems in support of the Advanced Photon Source (APS) facility. The Associate Division Director must be capable of leading a large group of accelerator scientists and engineers in the development of novel accelerator systems at the APS in order to keep the facility at the forefront of x-ray science. Knowledge of research techniques used in material and condensed matter science desired. The applicant must be able to influence the direction of facility development to achieve maximum scientific results and to evaluate the technical quality and cost effectiveness of designs being developed and implemented by the Division and the APS.

The Associate Division Director will be called upon to demonstrate considerable skill in managing Technical Group Leaders in carrying out their responsibilities, which include safety management, recruiting, scheduling, and effectively allocating financial resources.
