Argonne National Laboratory — Director, Biosciences
Division
Argonne National Laboratory invites applicants for the position of Director
of the Biosciences Division. The Division Director will
- Provide
scientific leadership by enhancing the strengths and visibility of existing
basic and applied research programs and by developing new research programs
that use state-of-the-art science and engineering to serve national needs;
- Recruit, hire, and retain world class science and engineering talent,
- Provide management leadership for the Division's programs and their
interfaces with other areas of Argonne National Laboratory, the Department
of Energy, and other sponsors, and
- Foster and maintain high standards in ES&H
and quality assurance for all of the division's research activities
and operations.
The Biosciences Division has a staff of approximately 60 Ph.D.s. involved
in research efforts that span structural biology, genomics, proteomics, cellular
development, bioinformatics, nanobiology, membrane protein biochemistry, and
protein biomarker production. The selected applicant will be responsible for
maintaining current efforts while establishing a world-class research program
in enabling technologies, specifically in the area of cutting edge and high-throughput
technologies. The successful candidate must have a strong record of accomplishment
in the biosciences and in program development and a Ph.D. or equivalent in
the biosciences. Managerial experience in a multiprogram, multidisciplinary
research environment is highly desirable. The position has the possibility
of being a joint appointment with the University of Chicago, Northwestern
University, or the University of Illinois.
