Dave's fairly useful links
As the editor of Argonne News, I spend
a fair amount of time tracking down information on the Web. Here are
some useful or just plain interesting sites I've come across. Last updated
Nov. 29, 2007.
Alan Boyle's Cosmic Log at MSNBC is a compendium of links that leans toward space science and technology.
EQO Director Bob McCook pointed me to this excellent — and sometimes hilarious — Web site with a safety message: the U.S. Naval Safety Center's "Photo of the Week."
As we enter severe weather season, I like to check this map at the Storm Prediction Center, which outlines areas at risk.
Here's a list of division and other useful acronymns. It's from the "new employees" section of the employee portal -- but sometimes even us grizzled veterans have trouble recognizing the players without a scorecard.
A live look at the AAEM TelePresence
Microscopy Site in Building 212. What's Nestor up to today?
Technology news from Wired magazine.
Many searches begin with Google or Yahoo!
But there's also a search engine specifically for Argonne
Web space.
Argonne history. Now includes
State of the Lab addresses going back to 1983.
Make sure you're on
time for that big meeting. And here's a less authoritative, but more interesting, way to set your watch.
Before you forward that forward, or get the urge to glurge, be sure to "Snope
it" at the Urban Legends Reference
Pages. I've been getting a few nanny blocks lately, but most of the entries are still accessible.
Astronomy picture
of the day. Cool images, with brief explanations written by professional
astronomers.
Panama
Canal Cam. An oddly fascinating live look at the Miraflores locks.
