Four to be honored
for outstanding service

Four Argonne employees will be honored with 2001 University of Chicago Outstanding Service Awards. Donald Randel, university president and chairman of the Board of Governors for Argonne, will present the awards at a ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 12, in Argonne-East's Building 213 Cafeteria.

The award is the highest honor the university gives to Argonne employees in support positions. Winners receive an engraved plaque and a check for $3,000. The award was established in 1983 by the University of Chicago Board of Governors for Argonne. It recognizes those who have furthered the goals and missions of the laboratory through exceptional contributions.

Award winners are:

Clifford Jackson (PFS-US), who demonstrated and maintained an exceptional level of reliability, dependability and leadership through a career of more than 35 years. The senior member of four off-shift foremen, Jackson keeps the laboratory running during the night and on weekends and holidays.

William Kettman (ET), for his exemplary services as chief technician and assistant manager of the Alpha-Gamma Hot Cell Facility. Kettman is a cornerstone of facility operations, providing support for scientists and engineers with a high level of attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership in the facility and projects being conducted there.

Sharon Kay Foreman (CHM), administrative secretary, for performance beyond expectations, including coordinating submission of a joint University of Chicago- Argonne research proposal, organizing international conferences and designing scientific Web pages. Her organizational skills and professional manner have enhanced the Argonne's reputation.

Ray Wittkamp (OCF), purchasing supervisor, for thoughtful, comprehensive assistance to scientists and budget administrators. He is an expert in complex procurements of technical scientific equipment. On many occasions, Wittkamp found ways to meet equipment needs at lower cost or with faster delivery.
