Argonne’s superconductor welding technique creates a strong bond. At left, the superconducting current is shown circulating around an unbroken ring. When the ring is cut (center) the magnetic field drops as the electric current stops flowing. Using the Argonne welding technique (right), the magnetic field distribution is nearly the same after the cut is repaired.
