Procedure for ordering Argonne Premium Coal Samples

Eight coals are available in sealed glass ampoules of either 5 grams of -100 mesh or 10 grams of -20 mesh.

The coals are listed below in the order collected, along with rank and elemental analysis data. The moisture and ash-free values are given in %, except for sulfur and ash which are in dry %.

The amber borosilicate glass ampoules have been flame-sealed under nitrogen. Instructions for opening the ampoules and Material Safety Data Sheets will be included. The samples should be used immediately after opening if sample oxidation can affect your studies. These samples will react very quickly with oxygen. Any unused portion should be discarded, as the original properties may change on further storage.

A major objective of the Argonne Premium Coal Sample Program is to further the basic understanding of the properties and behavior of coal. In order to maximize the benefit to all researchers, each request implies an agreement to provide the manager of the Premium Coal Samples Program with a reference to each journal article or public report describing the research results. This bibliographic information and analytical data is made available to other researchers through periodic reports and via internet. This program is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Fossil Energy.

The cost of the ampoules are:

                             5-gram ampoules of -100 mesh: $16.00

10-gram ampoules of -20 mesh: $16.00

Single samples and any combination of coals are available. Shipments will be made by UPS within the U.S. International Shipments will be made by Express Mail, and an additional charge of $20.00 per set of eight ampoules will be made.
