From the Director
Here at Argonne, our renowned scientists and engineers conduct world-class, mission-driven research, working to answer fundamental scientific questions while advancing America’s top priorities – in clean energy, environment, technology and national security.
Working alongside leading researchers from universities, private industry, and the Department of Energy’s national laboratories, we are using Argonne’s outstanding scientific tools to expand America’s innovation pipeline, from the earliest discoveries of basic science all the way through to the development of cutting-edge new products and technologies.
Every day, we face great scientific challenges. In our quest to find new sustainable energy technologies, we know we must make fundamental breakthroughs in the physical sciences. Then we must build on that breakthrough science to develop clean, affordable, practical energy alternatives that will power our economy while protecting our environment and our national security.
Through collaborations with researchers here at Argonne and around the world, we hope to discover new ways to prevent and cure disease, create novel materials molecule-by-molecule, and gain a deeper understanding of our planet, our climate, and the cosmos.
