Argonne, Fermi national laboratories to welcome local businesses Aug. 21August 15, 2013
LEMONT, Ill. – On Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne and Fermi national laboratories will sponsor their inaugural joint-business fair: “Doing Business with Argonne and Fermi National Laboratories.”
The one-day event, which will be held at Argonne’s Theory and Computing Science Center, will offer local small businesses and start-up firms an opportunity to learn about potential partnerships with the two national laboratories’ procurement groups, technology development and commercialization groups, user facility staffs and small business support staff.
More than 140 people will be in attendance representing 84 local small businesses and start-ups.
“The labs have not fully tapped their potential to galvanize their local economies,” said U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. “The labs have world-class experimental facilities and personnel that foster new technologies and can lead to new industries and new jobs.”
Illinois Congressmen Bill Foster, Randy Hultgren and Dan Lipinski will provide opening remarks. Other speakers will include Eric Isaacs, Director of Argonne National Laboratory; Jack Anderson, Interim Director of Fermi National Laboratory; and Ed Daniels, Argonne's Deputy Associate Lab Director for Energy Engineering and Systems Analysis.
The event will afford ample opportunity to interact with the national laboratories’ staffs, with breakout sessions dedicated to subcontracting and procurement, as well as technology transfer, sponsored research and how to engage scientific user facilities.
Participants will have the opportunity to meet directly with contract specialists and technical representatives throughout the event. Guests will also be able to engage in open networking during lunch.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the event runs from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. with an optional tour of the facilities ending at 3:00 p.m.
The event is at capacity, so we are no longer accepting registrations. If you are a member of the media who would like to attend the event, please contact Alex Mitchell of Argonne's Communications, Education and Public Affairs division at 630-252-5573 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will be holding at least one of these events each year, so if you own a small business or start-up and are interested in attending, please contact Mitchell (630-252-5573; email@example.com).
