New computational framework for estimating wind power uncertainty

Researchers in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne, together with two doctoral students, have developed a computational framework that integrates a state-of-the-art weather forecasting model with stochastic unit commitment (UC) and energy dispatch (ED) formulations. Both UC and ED operation—which represent which power generating units to run at what levels for the most economic operation—are critical because of their strong economic impact and increasing emissions concerns.
