Argonne National Laboratory

Scheduled Maintenance Periods

The CNM holds three maintenance periods per year. During these times certain CNM facilities may not be available for user activities. The Sector 26 beamline will not be available, the High-Performance Computing Cluster and nanofabrication facilities often are not available, and other facilities may undergo maintenance for only one or two days. Please contact your CNM Scientific Contact prior to arrival and plan your work visits and schedules accordingly.

To better ensure reliable instrument availability at CNM, defined maintenance periods occur three times per calendar year. These periods are used to perform preventive maintenance on the scientific instruments and their support equipment. The facility's operating infrastructure systems also undergo preventive maintenance that will help avoid unplanned shutdowns. The maintenance periods will occur at these times and are inclusive of weekends:

  • January 3-8, 2017
  • May 1-7, 2017 (see special note below)
  • September 5-10, 2017

Additional Holiday Shutdown

Argonne National Laboratory, including the Center for Nanoscale Materials, will close for the holidays at COB on December 22, 2016, and will reopen on January 3, 2017. The CNM clean room will close one day earlier, at COB December 21, 2016 to accommodate work for the Argonne clean room expansion. Neither the CNM building nor CNM staff (including administrative support) will be available to users during the holiday shutdown.

Special Notes for May Maintenance Period

The Laboratory is planning a road improvement project for a section of Rock Road located north of and adjacent to the building 440 parking lot. This project will close the road for a minimum of one week, including access to the 440 parking lot from the north.
