Bassam Jody

Chemical Engineer

Dr. Jody is a project manager in the Process Technology Research section of the Energy Systems Division. In this role he is responsible for leading teams of engineers and scientists who are involved in developing and commercializing new and sustainable environmental and energy processes that will reduce pollution and reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources.

Dr. Jody has been with Argonne since February of 1989. He came to Argonne from IIT Research Institute where he worked as the manager of Chemical Engineering Research group. He was responsible for developing environmental and energy processes. He is the co-author of 8 patents and over 50 publications. Processes developed by Dr. Jody and his team have been succesfully commercialized.

He is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Mechanical, Material and Aerospace Engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology.

  • The Society of Plastics Engineers, Environmental Division, Global Plastics Environmental Conference (GPEC) “Enabling Technologies in Processes & Procedures” 2007 Award.
  • 2002 Arch T. Colwell Merit Award.  Award presented at the Honors Convocation during the SAE 2004 World Congress.
  • 2003 Inventor of the Year, Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago
  • 2000 R&D 100 Award Winner, “Process to Recover and Clean Flexible Polyurethane Foam from Automobile Shredder Residue”, June 2000.
