Charley Yu manages and serves as the Principal Investigator for the RESRAD model development and risk assessment program in the Environmental Science Division of Argonne National Laboratory.
He has more than 30 years experience in developing multipathway, multimedia computer models and codes. Dr. Yu has focused his research on modeling of radionuclide transport in the environment; radiological dose and risk assessment of humans, flora, and fauna; improving probabilistic dose assessment codes to reduce uncertainty and run time; linking RESRAD to other transport models, and development of operational guidelines for responding to radiological dispersal device incidents.
The RESRAD family of codes has become an industry standard for establishing cleanup guidelines for radiologically contaminated sites. These codes have been widely used in more than 90 countries in the world.
Dr. Yu has been invited by several countries/organizations to present his work and has been consulted on the application of RESRAD codes and their methodologies. More than 100 RESRAD training courses have been conducted and many of them were sponsored by the DOE, NRC, and IAEA.
