John Krummel's research areas include landscape and ecosystem ecology, application of geographic information system (GIS) technology to environmental modeling, and energy-environment stewardship issues.
Dr. Krummel has been the principal investigator on projects that evaluated the effect of slash-and-burn agriculture on tropical forest loss in Thailand, the use of GIS technology in visualizing complex environmental problems, the development of energy transportation corridors in the western United States, and co-author of a strategy to implement the North Slope (Alaska) Science Initiative.
He has also been the program manager for a number of integrated assessments including the renewal of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System.
Dr. Krummel has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters and published reports. He is currently the Strategic Area Manager for Natural Resource Systems and Integrated Assessments in the Environmental Science Division at Argonne.
