Matthew Howard is Argonne’s Chief Communications Officer and director of the Communications and Public Affairs division.
As Argonne’s top communications executive, Howard is responsible for communicating the distinctive scientific culture and the groundbreaking innovations and impacts of one of the nation’s largest science and engineering research laboratories. He leads Argonne’s communications strategy and central communications functions. He oversees the units responsible for the laboratory’s brand and visual identity, media relations, internal communications, and community engagement.
Before joining Argonne in 2007, Howard served as the director of the media initiatives group at the University of Chicago. In prior years, Howard has worked as a higher education advisor, as an editorial and communications lead for multiple start-up companies, and as an editor for an academic publisher.
Howard holds an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a master’s degree from Miami University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester.
