Steve McConnell

Engine Research Engineer
- Energy Systems

Steve McConnell is the lead fuels engineer in Argonne’s Center for Transportation Research. He is the principal investigator in charge of developing the “omnivorous engine”, a flexible-fueled engine that is capable of sensing combustion characteristics in cylinder and optimizing the engine’s performance for the fuel characteristics/blends present.

He also helped build Argonne’s automotive testing facility, and has studied locomotive, diesel, bus, and car engines–including such alternative fuel engines as those based on natural gas–and emissions from those engines.
