Argonne National Laboratory

The Computational Science Division (CPS) focuses on solving the most challenging scientific problems through advanced modeling and simulation on the most capable computers.

The mission of the CPS is to solve the most challenging applied scientific problems through advanced modeling and simulation on the most capable computers. The division aims to build lab-wide cross-cutting simulation application capabilities integrating with mathematics, computer science, domain science, and advanced computing architectures and facilities. Additionally, the CPS provides an interdisciplinary home for spawning simulation programs and projects, often in collaboration with the Data Science and Learning and Mathematics and Computer Science Divisions and the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility.

The strong core staff of the CPS builds on existing computational science excellence, with matrixed staff from all areas of the laboratory creating the key connections needed to develop advanced applications. The division builds on the activities of Argonne’s over 400 computational scientists and over 100 computational applications, spanning all directorates and divisions. Additionally it establishes relationships and joint activities with universities and industry.
