College Bound Research Program
The application system for summer 2017 is now closed. For those students who have already submitted an application, you will be notified either way of a decision via email no later than May 15, 2017.
Argonne offers a research participation program for local Illinois high school seniors during the summer between high school graduation and the college fall term. In this immersion experience, participating students work in a laboratory or office environment, performing research and rubbing elbows with scientists and engineers, in order to get a feel for what it means to work in a national laboratory and be a part of the process of scientific discovery.
June 11, 2018 to August 3, 2018
To be considered, an applicant must meet all eligibility requirements and submit an electronic application including all required materials. To assess eligibility, and prior to the merit assessment and evaluation, an initial review of all applications will be conducted to verify applicant eligibility and ensure all the required materials have been provided. Only those applications meeting the requirements will be advanced for merit review and selection. The application materials received will provide the sole basis for the evaluation selection.
Students who are selected will be notified by email. The email will include the official offer package providing details of the project. Only one offer will be extended to an applicant during an application period. If the applicant declines, no additional or alternative offer will be made. Students who do not receive an offer will also be notified by email no later than mid-May, 2018.
During the appointment period, participants receive a stipend of $450 per week. Stipends are considered taxable income by the IRS. The Laboratory is required by law to report this income.
Transportation and Housing
Daily transportation is the responsibility of the students and parents. Housing is not available for the College Bound Research Program.
This is a 40 hour per week program and therefore, you are expected to participate Monday through Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
