Argonne National Laboratory

Virtual Private Network (VPN) Client

Using a VPN client ("Full VPN") provides the same access to internal services that you would have when working from your desk at the Laboratory. It is required if you need access to resources beyond internal web pages and web applications. This option requires additional authorization from your division’s Cyber Security Program Representative (CSPR).

After you have established a VPN connection, you can access Inside Argonne and various business applications. You can also connect via Remote Desktop to access your work files that reside on the Argonne network from your work computer.

Full VPN also requires the installation of VPN client software on the computers that you will use to access Laboratory resources.Your division technical support may have to install the software for you if you do not have administrative rights on your computer.

Unique circumstances might make a particular VPN client more suitable for your use. Your division CSPR can help you determine which one of these clients should be used.

PII Survey

An annual survey is required of all employees who have VPN access to Argonne. You will be notified via e-mail when you are required to take the survey, but it is also available here.

Based on the information you provide in the survey, you may be required to use a CryptoCard for added security. In that event, the CIS Help Desk will contact you. to obtain the Cryptocard device.
