Dr. Rui Yao is a postdoctoral appointee in the Energy Systems Division of Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). His research is mainly focused on enhancing the resilience of power systems, including simulation, analysis and mitigation of cascading outages, reducing the impact of natural disasters on power systems and faster-than-real-time dynamic security assessment.
Prior to joining ANL, Rui was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He received the Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees (both in electrical engineering) from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 2011 and 2016 respectively. Rui is an IEEE member, a member of IEEE cascading failure working group and an FAA private pilot. Rui is an active reviewer of multiple academic journals.
