Abstract:
Successful synthesis of spin liquid materials without a magnetically ordered ground state, in particular the single crystal growth of ZnCu3(OH)6Cl2 kagome system (Herbertsmithite) [1], opened new avenues of research into the effects of frustration in quantum materials. Our research group collaborates with material growers, and uses NMR to probe the local magnetism in spin liquid systems (in addition to iron-pnictide high Tc superconductors etc.). In this talk, I will discuss how we utilize NMR to shed microscopic light on the frustration effects, taking ZnCu3(OH)6Cl2 as the primary example [2].
