Abstract:
Improvements in the fundamental understanding of electrochemical interfaces have started to revolutionize the development of alternative energy systems for clean energy production, storage and conversion. By using an interdisciplinary approach that combines both experimental and computational methods, we are rapidly defining the landscape of parameters that control the efficiency of the two key energy cycles, based around water and lithium, respectively. In this presentation we demonstrate that understanding the complexity (simplicity) of electrochemical interfaces would open new avenues for design and deployment of alternative energy systems. This is only a beginning of our challenging but exciting journey on the “energy highway,” and continued progress will require further innovations in the study of electrified liquid/solid interfaces.
