Interviewing in the 21st Century

Now that you are in the door, how do you get invited back?

The Postdoctoral Program Office invites postdoctoral researchers to a discussion on interviewing skills as seen through the industrial and corporate lens.

The discussion takes place Wednesday, August 27, 2014, from 11:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m., at the Building 205, Y-Wing Auditorium.

Lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. The program begins at noon. RSVP is required to attend.

Abstract:
Job interviews entail more than just highlighting research. With a panel of experts from Allstate Insurance, two panelists are Argonne and Fermi postdoctoral alumni, receive answers to such questions as:

  • Who are all the players in the interview process and what are their roles?
  • What is "behavioral interviewing?"
  • What do scientists need to know to prepare for interviews outside of the traditional research environment?
  • What constitutes a good interview versus a bad interview?
  • What observations do interviewers make besides evaluating answers to questions?
