Abstract:
QED Technologies, founded in 1996, has commercialized and advanced the magneto Rheological Finishing (MRF®) technology for polishing optical surfaces and has also developed surface metrology using sub-aperture stitching interferometry (SSI®). After being purchased by Cabot Microelectronics Inc, (CCMP) in 2006, QED has continued to develop equipment and techniques to improve the manufacturing of precision optical components.
This talk will provide a brief overview of QED, the fundamentals of MRF and SSI, and the most recent developments including the new Q-flex MRF system, the MR fluids for improved surface finish, the introduction of the QIS (QED Interferometer for Stitching) and the creation of a division, QED Optics. Some recent advanced optics developed will be described.
