| Argonne National Laboratory invites outstanding candidates to apply for a postdoctoral research position focusing on programming and run-time infrastructure for scientific cloud computing.
The position involves research into the requirements of large-scale applications and the design and implementation of software infrastructure for reconfigurable cluster environments. The successful candidate will work with systems software researchers in the Mathematics and Computer Science (MCS) Division and staff in the Argonne Laboratory Computing Facility (ALCF), who are exploring ways to enable computational science applications to utilize cloud computing effectively. Current research efforts focus on programming models, communication libraries, operating systems, I/O and file system issues, and high-level programming approaches. This position also involves disseminating results in publications and presentations at workshops and conferences.
The MCS Division has a vigorous research program in applied mathematics and computer science. The computational environment includes several large Linux clusters, a distributed systems laboratory, and a virtual environments laboratory. The ALCF operates a 557-teraflop IBM Blue Gene/P system for production scientific and engineering computing and a 13.9-teraflop IBM Blue Gene/P system for system software development, software testing, and tool and application porting. For more information, see http://www.mcs.anl.gov and http://www.alcf.anl.gov
Applicants must have recently received a Ph.D. in computer science or a related discipline and should have expertise in system software for supercomputers. Considerable knowledge is required in one or more of the following areas: parallel file systems, storage organization, operating systems and the Linux kernel, fault detection or fault tolerance, and parallel programming. Candidates should be able to create, maintain, and support high-quality software. Also desired are good collaborative skills, including the ability to work well with other laboratories and universities. The appointment is for a one-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
Via the Argonne website http://www.anl.gov/jobs under division postdoctoral job openings for job requisition MCS 314677 a candidate should submit a curriculum vitae; research proposal; list of publications, abstracts, and significant presentations; and the names of three references, other than Argonne staff, who can attest to the candidate's ability and potential. At time of posting recruiting for 3 positions.
