Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Responsible for the development and maintenance of software for support of X-ray detectors at beam lines of the Advanced Photon Source for use by scientific staff and by visiting scientists. Provides technical support in areas of expertise to APS-affiliated developers. Knowledge, Skills and Experience
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Considerable
Considerable skill and experience with analyzing, problem solving, and troubleshooting at the interface between control system hardware and software is required. Considerable knowledge of software development in C, involving system calls and manipulation of complex data structures is required. Considerable knowledge of software development in Java and Python involving manipulation of complex data structures is required, as is experience and familiarity in developing interactive programs and graphical user interfaces. Considerable communication and interpersonal skills are required as is a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively. Considerable knowledge of the equipment, procedures, and culture unique to scientific research is highly desirable.
  Good
Good knowledge of digital and analog electronics is required.
  Other
Experience developing high-level software to control equipment in a highly automated fashion is desirable. Experience performing experiments, either at a synchrotron, or a lab x-ray source is desirable. Occasional on-call support may be required. Must be able to work independently with minimal technical supervision. Ph.D. and 0-1 year experience/equivalent Master's Degree and 2-3 years of experience/equivalent Bachelor's Degree and 6-8 years experience/equivalent
