Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Performs basic or applied research in selected science or engineering discipline(s) using innovative computational methods on scalable parallel computers. Develops complex multidisciplinary computational initiatives. Publishes scholarly papers in scientific journals; organizes and gives presentations at symposia, conferences, meetings, and seminars. Advances simulations on leadership-class computers to attack complex problems and achieve new science. Collaborates with colleagues in selected discipline(s) to integrate new methodologies that enable large-scale calculations.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following basic, applied or engineering disciplines: biology, earth science, energy sciences and engineering, materials and chemical sciences, nanoscience, nuclear energy sources, nuclear and high energy physics, and renewable energy. Comprehensive skill in the solution of scientific problems within area(s) of expertise using computational science methods on scalable parallel computers and large data systems. Comprehensive collaborative skills, including the ability to work well with other laboratories, universities, and industry. Comprehensive ability to provide project leadership and generate outside funding. Comprehensive communications skills, both verbal and written.
  Considerable
Considerable ability to keep abreast of advances in areas of interest, thereby enabling more effective interactions with researchers. Considerable skill in directing, motivating, evaluating, motivating, and developing staff. Considerable knowledge of general practices and objectives of funding agencies.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Ph.D. degree and 15+ years experience/equivalent Master's Degree and 15+ years of experience/ equivalent Bachelor's Degree and 20+ years experience/ equivalent
  Eight to ten mid to high-level career high-potential hires are anticipated in the next 24 months. These hires are part of a broad strategic initiative at Argonne. Typical degree level and years of experience for the highest posted level (see PD); and for the alternate two consecutive lower levels are: 708 - BS degree and 12+ years of experience or equivalent, MS degree and 12+ years of experience or equivalent, PhD degree and 10+ years of experience or equivalent; or 707 - MS degree and 8-12 years of experience or equivalent, PhD degree and 6-10 years of experience or equivalent.
