Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Participates in the technical design, operation, support and continued development of the high performance computing (HPC) facilities of the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF) division and laboratory in order to enhance the productivity of the scientific staff, research colleagues, and the R&D community at large. With the ALCF technical staff and colleagues at other labs and universities, assists with the coordination of similar systems. Special emphasis of this position is operate, support and develop Argonne`s Magellan Project on scientific cloud computing. Knowledge, Skills and Experience
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
-Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in UNIX systems administration, with emphasis on Linux. -Comprehensive knowledge of systems administration tools and languages, such as Perl, Python, C, PHP and shell scripts. -Comprehensive expertise in installation, configuration, and management of large numbers of computers. -Comprehensive expertise in installation, management and use of software such as compilers, scientific applications and job resource managers. -Comprehensive knowledge and expertise in technologies such as TCP/IP and related protocols; networked file systems, including NFS. -Comprehensive problem solving skills.
  Considerable
-Considerable wide-ranging technical expertise and the proven ability to keep it current. Considerable knowledge of high performance networking technologies such as Myrinet and Infiniband. -Considerable knowledge of and expertise in network design and administration. Considerable knowledge of and expertise in Internet resources, facilities, activities, and techniques. -Considerable problem solving skills. -Considerable ability to work effectively as a member of a team. Considerable skill and experience with a wide variety of networking equipment (Juniper, Force 10, Cisco, and Ciena). -Considerable skill and experience in IP routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS), as well as multicast operation. -Considerable ability to communicate well with people, of diverse backgrounds and computer knowledge.
  Good
-Good knowledge of parallel and cluster filesystems such as PVFS, Lustre, GPFS and GFS. -Good familiarity with the hardware and software of mass storage systems.

-Must be able to work effectively as a member of a team. -Must have considerable flexibility in handling assignments and working on several projects simultaneously. Ph.D. and 0-1 year experience/equivalent Master's Degree and 2-3 years of experience/equivalent Bachelor's Degree and 6-8 years experience/equivalent
