Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  The appointee will manage the Advanced Integration Group (AIG) of Argonne`s Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF). Responsibilities include developing specialized system software for ALCF supercomputers, exploring advanced technologies, and integrating and scaling key open source software components into the parallel scientific computing environment. Develops petascale and exascale software architectures to support future platforms. Works within the ALCF senior management team to analyze and design specialized software components for future platforms. Works with computational scientists to analyze gaps in software and tools and then helps develop solutions. Coordinates ALCF software development activities with vendors, the computer science research community, and open source software developers to help the ALCF meet existing and future software needs.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Comprehensive knowledge of advanced scientific system software, control and management systems, I/O, and data storage. Comprehensive knowledge of application-level protocols and system interfaces used by large parallel scientific applications.
  Considerable
Considerable knowledge of software design techniques such as Extreme Programming, Scrum development, etc. Considerable knowledge of collaborative software development and open source communities. Considerable knowledge of advanced network protocols, high performance computing systems, and system architectures. Considerable collaborative skills, including the ability to interact well with external collaborators and vendors; excellent communication and presentation skills. Considerable ability in establishing effective interpersonal relationships and in motivating staff.
  Good
Good knowledge of ANL and DOE policies and procedures.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Ph.D. and 6-10 years experience/equivalent Master's Degree and 8-12 years of experience/equivalent Bachelor's Degree and 12+ years experience/equivalent
