Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Work with staff scientists to conduct studies using geographic information system (GIS) tools and spatial modeling approaches to examine the effects of existing and proposed human activities on natural and disturbed environments, cultural resources, human land use activities, and socioeconomic conditions. Identify existing applications or develop, implement and maintain appropriate GIS processing tools, modeling techniques/activities for conducting technical analyses. Develop, use, and maintain GIS databases and applications as needed to conduct specialized analyses. Serve as technical lead or project leader for GIS projects as assigned.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Considerable
Knowledge of Geographic Information System software such as ESRI Arc/Info or AutoDesk AutoCAD. Skill in working with people as part of a team.
  Good
Knowledge of PC and Unix operating systems. Knowledge and skills in a variety of computer programming languages, such as: Arc/INFO AML, VB, JavaScript, ArcXML, HTML, and ArcView Avenue. Skill in written and oral communications. Skill in working effectively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers. Skill in meeting project deadlines and staying within budgetary limits. Skill in working on several projects simultaneously.
  Some
Knowledge and skills in other programming languages, such as: Visual Basic, SQL, and C.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Ph.D. and 0-1 year experience/equivalent Master's Degree and 2-3 years of experience/equivalent Bachelor's Degree and 6-8 years experience/equivalent
