Basic Purpose |
| |
Operates and maintains facility infrastructure equipment and completes compliance activities in the assigned nuclear facility. Responsibilities include performing required facility surveillance requirements activities (e.g., inspections, testing, and calibration of facility safety systems) on schedule, maintaining records associated with facility activities, operating facility systems as trained/instructed, maintaining facility equipment, assisting facility users and interfacing with and engineering and maintenance personnel. |

Knowledge, Skills and Experience |
| |
Comprehensive -Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment found in nuclear facilities and the skills and abilities required to operate, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of electrical/mechanical systems particularly: ventilation systems, electronics, motors, and controllers. |
| |
Considerable -Considerable knowledge of techniques, equipment, and instrumentation in the areas of fabrication, testing, data collection, and quality assurance procedures.
-Considerable skills and experience in working with tools and equipment. |

Good -Good knowledge of nuclear facility operations, handling of fissile and other radioactive materials, radiological control practices, and nuclear facility compliance activities.
-Good verbal and written communication skills for interaction with supervisors, Principal Investigators, support personnel, outside contacts and to ensure the documentation and maintenance of accurate written records. |

Other Facility operators for Hazard Category 2 and 3 nuclear facilities work in a variety of specialized facility areas which include: glove box, hot cell, storage, and waste facilities. Incumbents are required to meet various qualifications/certifications based upon their particular functional area(s) these include but are not limited to: Radiation Worker II, OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER, fissionable material handler, special materials material control and accountability, and other training as required by the facility as specified in the DOE Order 5480.20A - Required Training Implementation Matrices.
This level of knowledge and skills are typically achieved through technical training at the Associates levels and 5-10 years of directly applicable work experience. |
