Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Supports battery technology research and development activities with the design and implementation of specialized equipment and instrumentation; the improvement, as required, of existing equipment; the installation, execution, and monitoring of advanced battery tests; and analyzing, interpreting, and reporting the results.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Comprehensive
Comprehensive skill in diagnosing problems in electronics, power, and logic circuits.
  Considerable
Considerable skill in recognition of abnormal behavior of equipment or of a battery under test. Considerable knowledge of engineering principles and practices, and considerable knowledge of solid-state power and logic components and their applications and the design and application of operational amplifiers. Considerable skill in using electronic test equipment and the fabrication of electronics.
  Good
Good knowledge of battery testing hardware and experimental procedures and techniques. Good knowledge of the software and application of a control computer used in the battery testing. Good working skills in the operation of laboratory equipment and the resourceful application of a control computer to apply prescribed tests. Good knowledge of the interactions of power supply and filter systems with active loads, such as storage batteries, and a good knowledge of safety practices. Good working skill in oral and written communication and establishment and maintenance of effective work relationships with others.

This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in electrical engineering at the B.S. degree level with two to five years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Master's Degree and 0-2 years of experience/equivalent Bachelor's Degree and 2-5 years experience/equivalent
