Julie Jastrow is a senior terrestrial ecologist and group leader at Argonne National Laboratory, where she has spent her entire professional career. She is also a senior fellow in the Northwestern-Argonne Institute for Science and Engineering. Jastrow received her B.S. and M.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Jastrow has contributed to research on restoration ecology, plant-soil interactions, soil structure, and soil carbon dynamics and sequestration. Currently, her research focuses on characterizing the quantity and decomposability of soil carbon in the northern circumpolar permafrost region.
