Suresh Sunderrajan is the Interim Associate Laboratory Director of Argonne National Laboratory’s Science and Technology Partnerships and Outreach Directorate, which works with the laboratory’s research directorates to develop strategies that sustain and expand the lab’s relationships with industry, academia, government and other sectors.
Dr. Sunderrajan joined Argonne in 2015 as director of the Technology Commercialization and Partnerships Division. He previously served as director of Innovation Business Development at United Technologies Corporation, where he was responsible for patent and technology licensing, patent sales and new business incubation opportunities and was part of the team that built the organization from concept to over $100 million in committed contract value in three years.
Prior to his role at United Technologies, Dr. Sunderrajan was a serial entrepreneur, part of the founding team for startups focused on technologies that included quantum-dot technology for LED lighting and air cooling for LED lighting and power electronics. He also led global and multi-stage commercialization activities for the International Copper Association and Eastman Kodak Company. Dr. Sunderrajan’s experience also includes creating a silver nanomaterials-based antimicrobial business, serving as a director of the Corporate Venture Capital group at Eastman Kodak Company and leading the first alkaline conversion of a coated paperboard machine in the United States as a senior process engineer for Union Camp Corporation.
Dr. Sunderrajan holds more than 30 U.S. patents and received the Distinguished Inventor Award at Eastman Kodak. He earned his doctorate in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in management and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
