The US Patent and Trademark Office awarded
25 Patents to Argonne scientists in 2006.
As a multi-program lab, the subject matter across the 25
patents reflects the diversity of the areas in which Argonne scientists
work. Subjects ranged from novel electrodes for Lithium batteries to
double stranded nucleic acid biochips that detect DNA binding proteins.
A special material developed at ANL – Ceramicrete – had patents
issued where it was used as a construction material and also as a bone
cement in dentistry! Other issued patents included those related to superconductivity,
accelerator technology and new material and nanocomposites.
