Asset Environmental Services, Inc. (AES) and Argonne are working together to help Bethel New Life, a community economic development organization, develop a six-acre site to continue and expand its neighborhood revitalization efforts on Chicago's West Side.
Bethel wanted to purchase a six-acre site in an industrial park, for development of an environmental/recycling-related manufacturing industry, and the organization asked Argonne for help in characterizing the site.
Argonne has developed processes for dramatically streamlining site characterization work at hazardous waste sites. These processes are being used at federally owned sites.
With Argonne acting as technical advisor, AES developed an environmental assessment plan and completed the field investigation. Bethel has purchased the site and is proceeding with plans for development in the industrial park, which is adjacent to Bethel's 45-ton-per-day Material Recovery Facility, an operation that employs 35 people and serves more than 100 local businesses.
Argonne's efforts were supported by DOE's Office of Environmental Management, Office of Technology Development, Technology Transfer and Program Integration.
Working with Argonne
Argonne has many types of contractual agreements to meet the needs and interests of industry, state and local governments, federal agencies and other organizations.
