PLUME software, developed by Argonne and marketed by ConSolve, offers savings for site characterization.

ConSolve, Inc. and Argonne worked together to commercialize Argonne's PLUME software for hazardous waste characterization. The software was licensed to ConSolve and is now being marketed by that company.

PLUME cuts by 50-80% the number of soil and water samples needed to identify the area of earth contaminated by a hazardous material spill. Thus, the software reduces the need for successive sampling programs, which can become prohibitively expensive when safety and health compliance costs, drilling or boring expenses, and sample analysis costs are all included. The reduced sampling requirements also mean that characterization can be completed more quickly.

The CRADA and earlier basic research were supported by DOE's Office of Environmental Management, Office of Technology Development, Mixed Waste Landfill Integrated Demonstration.
