Abstract:
Finite element analysis (FEA) techniques are increasingly becoming sophisticated and can be used for structural integrity prediction of reactor components subjected to complex multi-physics environment, and under material and geometrical nonlinearity. In this seminar the use of commercially available ABAQUS finite element code for reactor structural integrity analysis will be discussed.

There are two major problems with the US’s nuclear power industry. They are the Lack of Public Trust and the Excessive Cost of New Plants. Public trust has been destroyed by years of incompetent regulation and utility greed which translates to increased risk of serious accidents.

Thermal-hydraulic Analysis of the Upper Plenum of a SFR
Abstract:
Thermal-striping phenomenon is a potential safety concern in the long term operation of a Sodium Fast Reactor (SFR) due to the thermal stresses accumulated on structures and components from the impingement of poorly mixed streams of coolant flow from different sub-assemblies. Incomplete mixing out of the core has an impact on the thermal-hydraulic performance and design of both loop- and pool-type SFRs. Here, the mixing phenomenon has been numerically investigated using a Reynolds Average Navier Stokes (RANS) equation model available in commercial CFD package (COMSOL).
