Corrosion and Mechanics of Materials

Exploring the mechanics of failure due to corrosion

Facilities such as nuclear reactors, wind energy towers, and hydropower generation facilities tend to have long lifespans, At the same time, the consequences of structural failure in their underlying infrastructure can be catastrophic.

We use a variety of tools to study the mechanisms of structural failure and non-invasive ways to assess structural integrity in order to predict and prevent failures that threaten our nation’s energy supply and safety.
