First Result from the Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermilab

PHY Colloquium

Abstract: The Muon g-2 Experiment recently published the first result for the muon magnetic anomaly obtained from data taken in 2018, which are in good agreement with the result from the former experiment at Brookhaven. The combined experimental result increases the tension with the standard model expectation from 3.7 sigma to 4.2 sigma, strengthening possible hints for new physics. This talk will present a short history of the g-2 experimental history, detail the experiment at Fermilab and provide an overview of the analysis details.
