Named for one of the pioneers in elementary functions and numerical software libraries, the W. J. Cody Associates summer program for Ph.D. students provides an unprecedented opportunity for students to work with experts in the computing sciences.

To be eligible, you must be in an accredited Ph.D. program in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field at a U.S. university. Application Deadline: March 1

As a Cody Associate, you will work actively with Argonne scientists in designing, analyzing, and implementing software solutions for scientific computing at extreme scale. Researchers in the Mathematics and Computer Science Division will help you gain new insights into parallel operating systems and file systems; parallel programming models and communication libraries; and numerical methods and software for solving partial differential equations, uncertainty quantification, and optimization problems on the future Department of Energy leadership computing systems. You will work in a research environment that includes the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility, with access to one of DOE’s leadership-class computers.

W. J. Cody Associates receive a stipend of $4,300 to $4,500 per month, depending on experience level. Transportation expenses are reimbursed for one round trip between the Laboratory and the participant’s home or university for round-trip distances greater than 100 miles. Note: federal/state income taxes will be withheld from the stipend and the stipend amount includes funding to pay for lodging costs.
