Professor Hong Zhang received a B.S. in mathematics from Beijing Normal University in 1982 and her Ph.D. in computational mathematics from Michigan State University in 1989. She was a math professor at Clemson University, South Carolina, and at Louisiana State University before she joined the PETSc team at Argonne National Laboratory in 1999. She currently teaches graduate courses on advanced scientific computing, software design and data structures as a research professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Illinois Institute of Technology and works as a software developer in Argonne’s Mathematics and Computer Science division. At Argonne, she conducts scalable (parallel) numerical algorithmic research and develops software for challenging applications on extreme-scale computers.
