Ab initio low-energy nuclear theory


Ragnar Stroberg is a theoretical nuclear physicist in the Physics Division at Argonne National Laboratory. His research is focused on ab initio many-body calculations for low-energy nuclear physics, with particular emphasis on using the in-medium similarity renormalization group (IMSRG) to derive effective valence-space interactions and operators. These interactions and operators can then be used with traditional shell model codes, without the need for phenomenological adjustments. Combined with interactions derived from chiral effective field theory, this provides a promising route to theoretical predictions (with error bars) of quantities which cannot be accessed experimentally, including quantities relevant for astrophysics and searches for physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics.
