Robust Lubricity at High Load and Temperature (ANL-IN-19-008)

Friction reduction for energy efficiency, lowered costs, and increased lifetime.

The Innovation

Sliding mechanical systems at high temperature and load are used extensively in industries such as automotive, heavy machinery, surface and underground drilling, space, and extraterrestrial applications. Many of these applications require high loads and temperatures that result and aggravated frictional losses and corresponding deterioration of overall efficiency. High temperature greases and lubricants require replenishment at periodic intervals and may not provide adequate friction elimination. This technology is intended to reduce friction and nearly eliminate wear and frictional losses by oil-free solid lubricants, in order to improve energy efficiency, reduce operational costs, and extend service life using a combination of 2D materials applied using a spray coating process on metal surfaces.

The Benefits

  • Ultra-low friction and wear at high temperature in ambient conditions
  • Versatile for a range of industries and common materials
  • Easy to apply with spray processes
